The free Manatee County trolley runs the length of Gulf Drive and stops within sight of the door. Between that and walking to Bridge Street, most guests here go a week without needing a vehicle at all.
Which makes the maths simple. Book the airport legs, book the two or three trips the trolley does not cover, and skip the rental entirely — including the part where a car sits in a limited island parking space for six days and then has to be returned with a full tank on the morning of a flight.

South past Bridge Street the island empties out.
Coquina Beach runs along the southern tip of the island below Bradenton Beach — a long, shaded, much quieter stretch of sand with the Longboat Pass bridge at the end of it. It is a short run and a different day from the beach outside the door.
We drop and collect at an agreed time, which in season avoids the only real problem Coquina has: its car park fills by mid-morning.
Coquina's car park fills early from January to April. A drop and an agreed collection turns the hardest part of a beach day into somebody else's problem.
