The beach, the restaurants and the neighbouring resorts are all walkable from the door. What is not walkable is downtown St. Petersburg at roughly 25 to 30 minutes, Clearwater Beach up the coast, or either airport.
Those are the trips worth booking properly rather than hiring a car that will spend the week parked. Point-to-point as needed, with a collection time agreed for anything that involves a beach or a bar at the other end.
