Staying on the west side of Bradenton is a deliberate choice: it is closer to the Manatee Avenue bridge and therefore to Anna Maria Island, Coquina Beach and Bradenton Beach than anywhere downtown or out by the interstate. On a week built around the sand, that difference compounds.
What it does not solve is island parking, which remains limited and seasonal. The beach day still works better as a drop and a collection than as a drive and a search.

The fishing village most visitors drive past.
On the way to the island, Cortez is one of the last working fishing villages on this coast — a few streets of boatyards and seafood houses that have been doing the same job for over a century. It is a better lunch than anything on the beach strip.
It is also small, with almost nowhere to park. A drop-off is the civilised way to visit, and it fits neatly either side of a beach afternoon.
At the southern end of the island, quieter than the northern villages and with a long stretch of sand. Roughly twenty minutes from the hotel.
