The Hiatus opened on South Gulfview Boulevard as the first Curio Collection property in its owner's portfolio — eighty-eight rooms, a seventh-floor rooftop with a pool and restaurant, and a hand-painted mural by the St. Petersburg artist Derek Donnelly running the full height of the building. It is easy to find for exactly that reason.
What it does not have is a resort forecourt. South Gulfview is busy, the frontage is short, and there is no valet queue to absorb an arriving car. We hold nearby and come to the door, which on this street is the difference between a clean pickup and a circuit of the block.
