Laid out in the 1920s by circus magnate John Ringling as a European-style shopping circle, St. Armands Circle is Sarasota's open-air boutique-and-dining district, ringed by banyan trees and courtyard patios. It's a short causeway drive from Downtown Sarasota, on the way to Lido Key's beaches — a natural stop for a Sarasota day, not a Tampa Bay one.
