Why Go
Siesta Key, in Sarasota County, is best known for sand that's genuinely unusual: roughly 99% pure quartz crystal, eroded down from the Appalachian Mountains and carried to the Gulf. Because quartz reflects heat rather than absorbing it, the sand stays notably cool underfoot even in Florida summer — a real, measurable trait, not a marketing line. It's a destination beach day rather than a quick stop, and it's in the Sarasota area, not Tampa Bay.
What to Expect
Siesta Beach, the main public beach, is Sarasota County's flagship — the largest public parking supply of any beach in the county, and a relaxed, resort-village atmosphere in adjacent Siesta Key Village. A free open-air trolley, the Siesta Key Breeze, currently connects the Village, the beach, South Village and Turtle Beach once you're on the island.
