Why sail from Port Canaveral instead of Tampa if I’m staying at the beach?
Because the ship you want may not fit into Tampa Bay. Disney Cruise Line sails only from Port Canaveral, and the tallest Royal Caribbean and Carnival mega-ships are too high to clear the Sunshine Skyway Bridge into Port Tampa Bay. If you’re vacationing in Clearwater or St. Pete but booked Disney or a mega-ship, the Cape is your port and this cross-state transfer is your ride.
