Rooftop cocktails on Water Street
Downtown Tampa, on the channel / About an hour
Start high and early, while the light is still doing something over the channel. The Insider Guide’s rooftop picks are the shortlist; a reservation is worth making on a weekend.
Dinner — a landmark steakhouse or the waterfront
South Howard, downtown or Rocky Point / Two to two and a half hours
The centre of the evening, and the reason to give the itinerary six hours rather than four. Tampa’s steakhouse tradition is genuinely a destination one; the waterfront rooms are the alternative if the table wants a view instead of a cellar.
A late drink in Ybor City
East of downtown / About an hour
Ybor after dark is a different city from Ybor in the afternoon — the brick streets, the bars, the noise. It is also the single worst place in Tampa to have brought a car, which is the point of having a chauffeur.

What to know about the driving.
- Six hours is the comfortable booking for a three-stop evening with a real dinner. Five works if you skip the rooftop or the late drink.
- Book restaurant and bar reservations yourself and tell us the times — we build the evening around them rather than the other way round.
- A Mercedes sedan suits two to three; a GMC Yukon SUV suits four to six. For a group in formal dress the SUV is the easier vehicle to get in and out of.
- The chauffeur waits at or near each venue for the whole stop. You are not calling for a car and then standing outside for it.
