Tampa International sits west of the city and downtown sits on the river, and the road between them is one of the easiest airport runs in Florida. What is worth paying for is the end of it — being delivered to a specific hotel door on a one-way downtown street, not to a rank near it.

Tampa International lies on the western side of the city, a short run from the downtown core along the interstate. Downtown itself is compact and divided by the Hillsborough River: the convention centre, the arena and the Channelside and Water Street districts sit on the eastern, channel-facing side, while the business towers and the courthouse district sit inland. Most arrivals end at one of three places — a Water Street hotel, a downtown business address, or a residential tower on the river. They are minutes apart and completely different to arrive at, which is why we take the specific address rather than "downtown".

The last two hundred metres are the hard part
Downtown Tampa is a grid of one-way streets with a convention centre, an arena and a cruise channel folded into it. A chauffeur who knows which side of Water Street a given hotel loads on, and which approach is closed on an event night, is worth more than the drive itself. You are set down at the entrance rather than at the nearest place a car could stop.
Business arrivals do not have a spare twenty minutes
The most common downtown transfer we run is a same-day arrival with a meeting on it. Flight tracking means the vehicle is timed to the actual landing, and a chauffeur walking in to Baggage Claim means the gap between the carousel and the car is measured rather than hoped for.

A hockey game, a convention or a concert reshapes downtown traffic and closes specific approaches. Dispatch knows what is on before you land, which is the difference between arriving at the hotel and arriving at the cordon two streets from it.

Every airport reservation is tied to your flight number and monitored live. Land forty minutes early or two hours late and your chauffeur’s timing moves with the aircraft.
Baggage Claim, Level 1 of the Main Terminal
TPA is one Main Terminal connected to four satellite airsides by shuttle. You ride your airside’s shuttle back, come down to Baggage Claim on Level 1, and your chauffeur is there with a sign showing your name.
Red side or Blue side, decided by your airline
Baggage claim at TPA is split Red and Blue by carrier, with ground transportation tied to the same split. Your confirmation tells your chauffeur which side to meet you on, so there is no phone call and no walking the length of the hall.
They park and walk in — no kerbside circling
Curbside space at TPA is for active loading only. Your chauffeur parks and comes inside rather than looping the terminal or sitting in the cell phone lot waiting for a call.

Complimentary wait time is measured from actual landing rather than from your scheduled time. International arrivals clear U.S. Customs at Airside F, which is the least predictable part of any arrival, so those get 90 minutes.
Your luggage goes straight into the vehicle
The chauffeur handles the bags from the carousel to the boot. There is no shuttle bay, no second handling, and no walk to a rental car centre — which at TPA is a separate building reached by its own train.

A Mercedes sedan handles two passengers with normal luggage into a downtown hotel. A GMC Yukon SUV is the right call for three or more, for anyone arriving with conference materials or display cases, and for families — the loading area at most downtown properties is tight, and a single larger vehicle is easier to get in and out of than two small ones.

Water Street and the channel
The newest part of downtown: a planned waterfront district of hotels, restaurants and public space built out from the channel and the convention centre. If your hotel address is on or near Water Street, you are within walking distance of the Riverwalk, Sparkman Wharf, the aquarium and — importantly for a lot of our passengers — the cruise terminals.
The Riverwalk and the western bank
The Hillsborough River runs through the middle of downtown with a continuous paved walkway along it, connecting the parks, the museums and the convention centre. It is the single best orientation walk in the city and it starts at most downtown hotel doors.
Getting anywhere else from here
Downtown is the hinge of the region. Ybor City is immediately east, Hyde Park immediately south, the cruise terminals are on the channel, and the airport is back the way you came. A great many of our downtown arrivals become an hourly booking the next day for exactly that reason.
Going back to the airport.
Almost every downtown arrival books the return. The outbound run to TPA is short but the check-in cut-off is not negotiable, so we take your flight number and work backwards from it, allowing for the airside shuttle you will need to catch once you are through security. If your last morning includes a meeting, a checkout and a flight, book it as an hourly block rather than as three separate transfers.
